| Resumo | Cluster analysis were applied to 106 rain gauges which recorded one year of hourly precipitation data. 10 different clusters were identified using 20 different variables assessed from the data set of each rain gauge. Descripitve statistics as annual amount, hourly, sazonal and diurnal variations of rainfall were also assessed from each rain gauge. The findings of this assignment are in agreement with previous {studies;} however, some limitations related to the diurnal cycle of rainfall are realized when many rain gauges are located far from one to another. The difference between the first harmonic peak of a given rain gauge cluster and each rain gauge of this cluster showed high values exceeding 6 hours depending on the cluster. This characteristc is related to the high spatial variability of the diurnal cycle of rainfall and it shows that diurnal variations of rainfall must be carefully investigated when large areas are the focus of the study. |
